Cambridge University
Japanese Society
A friendly interface between Japanese and non-Japanese in Cambridge
About Our Society
The Cambridge University Japanese Society provides a friendly environment for all students, Japanese and non-Japanese, to learn and experience the rich culture of Japan. We welcome all who are connected to Japan or interested in finding out more about Japanese culture. Our membership is open to all members of the University of Cambridge. Of course, you don't need to know any Japanese to join in, either! Join us to attend cultural events, language exchange programs, and more!
Our Goals
Community
We organise regular socials, from pub meets, dinners and clubbing events, to Japanese cultural events such as sushi parties, film nights, language lessons and karaoke!
Language Exchange
We hold conversational exchanges with visiting Japanese students. We hope to foster an environment where people of all different levels of ability can practice their Japanese and English, to leave feeling more confident and relaxed in their linguistic ability.
Cultural Awareness
AJS aims to promote awareness and appreciation of Japanese culture in Cambridge, to introduce our customs and traditions to members of the university
Party!
As well as all our events in term we hold an annual New Year's Party (involving Japanese food and umeshu!) and an end-of-term Garden Party in the summer. We hope you can join us in celebrating how life can be enriched through understanding and sharing culture!
